Changing seasons means changing produce and Ixcateco Grill’s Chef/Owner Anselmo Ramirez is taking advantage of the fall harvest bounty to bring guests new foods and flavors while still honoring the authenticity of central and southwestern Mexican cuisine. New menu items highlight fall’s favorite fruits, the apple and pumpkin, without overshadowing the famed, spicy mole sauces Ixcateco is known for.

New fall appetizers are the Ensalata de casa featuring warm roasted onions, apples and smoked goat cheese in a higo chumbo dressing over a bed of mixed greens ($8.50); and the colorful Memela Brava, wood grilled chicken or vegetables topped with guacamole, tomatillo salsa, sour cream, queso ranchero, cabbage and a pickled apple garnish ($10).

The new main dishes include the Salmon a la Lena, wood grilled salmon in a poblano corn cream sauce over white rice esquites and microgreens ($18); Camarones en mole de Calabaza, wood grilled shrimp, sautéed vegetables and micro greens in a pumpkin squash mole ($18); and Puerco en Mole Rojo, wood grilled pork loin next to red mole sauce, white rice and topped with micro greens ($17). For mole lovers seeking something more seasonally special, Costilla de res, slow roasted short ribs and chunky garlic mashed potatoes in a red mole sauce garnished with pumpkin seeds, sesame seeds and micro greens ($20), will satisfy that craving.

These dishes round out Ixcateco Grill’s menu, which still includes crowd favorites Pollo en Mole Negro, roasted chicken served in black mole, accompanied by chunky garlic mashed potatoes ($17), and the Carne Asada, adobo marinated wood grilled skirt steak served with a tomato Molcajete sauce, black beans and guacamole ($18).
