    Angelo's Tuscan Chicken Sandwich

Invented by the fourth Earl of Sandwich, John Montague, in the 1700s to keep up his energy without interrupting a 24 hour gambling spree, the first sandwich was a simple creation of sliced beef and cheese between two pieces of bread. Since then, sandwich makers have gotten more creative and options are nearly endless. At Angelo’s, choices include the Marinated Grilled Chicken Thigh with bacon bourbon jam, avocado and arugula on roasted garlic focaccia bread ($13); Italian Beef with au jus, mozzarella and Giardiniera on a fresh baguette ($11); Pulled Pork featuring smoked pork with coleslaw, pickled red onion and pickle on a brioche bun ($10); Mortadella with sweet salsa, fontina cheese and teleca ($14); Meatball Sandwich with mozzarella, divola and basil on a fresh baguette ($13); the Duck Duck Moo features a Slagel Farm beef patty, duck bacon, duck egg and white cheddar on a brioche bun ($16); Ahi Tuna BLT with bacon, tomato, arugula, avocado and aioli on a toasted ciabatta roll ($13); and the Hangover Burger, which features a Slagel Farm beef patty, sunny side egg, American cheese, guacamole, tortilla strips and habanero sauce on a brioche bun ($16).

Try a different one every week or stick to your favorite. With delicious sammies, fantastic wine and a beautiful new outdoor patio at Angelo’s Wine Bar, celebrating National Sandwich Month has never been more fun.

About Angelo’s Wine Bar

A long-time neighborhood staple, Angelo’s Wine Bar (3026 W. Montrose Ave, Chicago, IL 60618; 773-539-0111) was originally a simple Italian pizzeria founded by Jimmy Angelo in the 1960s. The business was sold to Manny Fakhoury in 1983 who turned it over to his brother in 1999 before his nephew, Ramez Fakhoury started helping in 2004. In 2015, Fakhoury completely reconfigured the take-out restaurant by purchasing the adjacent storefront to expand Angelo’s and transforming the space into a sophisticated sit-down restaurant. The restaurant’s facelift extended to its menu as well. In addition to its famous pizzas, the menu features Neapolitan style pasta, brunch, elegant shared plates, a robust wine selection, house-made vermouth and elegant cocktails. Additionally, live jazz is played in the restaurant Wednesday and Saturday nights.

In June 2017, Fakhoury added new outdoor patio, the first on the West Montrose side of the Chicago River’s north branch.
